Two-time Emmy Award-nominated"Six Feet Under" star
Lauren Ambrose takes on the lead role of Eliza
Doolittle, with"Downton Abbey" and"The Crown" celebrity
Harry Hadden-Paton creating his NY stage debut as Henry
Higgins, whilst two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz
and"Game of Thrones" favorite Diana Rigg happen to be
forged as Alfred P. Doolittle and Mrs. Higgins,
respectively.
Marking the first Broadway revival in 25 decades, the
brand-new production is directed by Tony Award winner
Bartlett Sher and can be just another shining example of
Sher performing exactly what Sher does best. After his
enormous successes with South Pacific and The King and
I, he's created yet another relaxing and lavish
representation of a timeless classic. With expansive
sets and intricate costumes most directors will die for
and rousing musical numbers dotted, the viewer is
mesmerized by an embarrassment of riches. Sher's
interpretation of the end of this piece may surprise a
few attendees, but is more in line with the musical's
original source material - George Bernard Shaw's
Pygmalion. Kudos to Lincoln Center Theater for once more
proving itself as the frontrunner in staging Broadway
musical revivals.
Adapted from George Bernard Shaw's play and Gabriel Pascal's motion picture Pygmalion, My Fair Lady tells the story of a cockney flower girl named Eliza Doolittle, who tries to pass as a woman after taking speech classes from phoneticist professor Henry Higgins.
